Our Team
Dr. Lazar is a pediatric neuropsychologist who is a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist. After graduating from Widener University’s Institute of Graduate Clinical Psychology (IGCP)in 1990, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at Children’s Hospital Boston. Dr. Lazar returned to Philadelphia to work at the Children’s Seashore House of CHOP, where she worked with children with diagnoses including traumatic brain injury, stroke, and brain tumor, and performed outpatient evaluations for learning disabilities and ADHD. Dr. Lazar became the director of Widener University’s Neuropsychology Assessment Center when it opened in 2004. There, she trained and supervised psychology interns and practicum students in the context of providing neuropsychological evaluations of children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Lazar remained director of the clinic until its closure in June 2020. As an adjunct faculty member of the IGCP, she continues to teach courses within the neuropsychology track and supervise student research.

Dr. Gold is a pediatric neuropsychologist who is a licensed psychologist and PA certified school psychologist. She is a graduate of Widener University’s clinical psychology doctoral program, with concentrations in neuropsychology and school psychology. Dr. Gold completed her postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. During her tenure at PSHMC, she saw patients for neuropsychological evaluations with histories of epilepsy, cancer, and concussions. She also conducted multi-disciplinary autism evaluations and participated in NICU and Cardiac follow-up clinics. After completing her post-doc, Dr. Gold worked as the Assistant Director at Widener University’s Neuropsychology Assessment Center where she supervised doctoral students conducting neuropsychological evaluations. Dr. Gold spent two years in that role, until the clinic’s closure in June 2020.

Dr. Shephard is a pediatric neuropsychologist who is a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist. She graduated from Widener University’s doctoral program in clinical psychology with specializations in neuropsychology and school psychology. Dr. Shephard has experience completing neuropsychological and autism evaluations with children and adults in a variety of hospital, school, and community-based settings. She has also worked in psychiatric rehabilitation with adults with serious mental illnesses and provided trauma-focused psychotherapy, cognitive rehabilitation, and biofeedback. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at DNA and Neuropsychology Rehabilitation Services. As an adjunct faculty member at Widener University, she teaches courses in neuroanatomy and neuropathology.
Erin Shephard, Psy.D.

Dr. Balko is a pediatric neuropsychologist who is a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist. She is a graduate of Widener University’s clinical psychology doctoral program, with concentrations in neuropsychology and school psychology. Dr. Balko completed her postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at the LEAP program at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. In that role, she conducted neuropsychological evaluations for children and adolescents with a variety of medical and neurodevelopmental conditions, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, seizure disorders, and developmental delays. She also has experience conducting school-based evaluations in both private and public school settings.

Ariful Karim, M.A.
Psychology Intern
Mr. Karim is a 4th-year doctoral student at Widener University's Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology. He is currently pursuing certificate tracks for both neuropsychology and school psychology with an aim towards pediatric neuropsychology. His experiences include school-based assessment of children in both public and private school settings, along with experience working in inpatient, outpatient, and private practice settings. Most recently, he completed his school psychology internship at the Radnor School District. He is looking forward to continuing to serve clients through his work at DNA.
